Explosion, Collapse or Underground Coverage

Occasionally we receive a request to add "Explosion, Collapse or Underground Coverage" to a General Liability policy.  In my experience the part of the difficulty with adding these types of endorsements is that essentially they are already included in a CGL policy. The carrier therefore becomes unwilling to add the endorsement since it could confuse the wording of the policy itself that already covers it.

If you want to ensure that Explosion, Collapse or Underground Coverage is covered rather than request that the coverage be added to the policy CGL it makes more sense to ensure that it has not been removed from the policy with the following exclusions:

  • Exclusion—Explosion, Collapse and Underground Property Damage (CG 21 42 or 21 43)
